Separate the barcode image from the barcode number
Recommended workflow
Check the use case
Internal labels and samples can use generated images. Product packaging for retail or platforms needs a valid number source.
Confirm whether you already have a valid code
If you do, generate the barcode image from that number. If not, do not invent a random 13-digit retail barcode.
Obtain and maintain product numbers
Businesses usually obtain a company prefix and assign product item codes according to GS1 rules.
Generate the image
After the number is valid, create the EAN-13 image and check the check digit, quiet zone and print size.
Test before launch
Scan the printed label with the target platform, POS or scanner to confirm the product information matches.

FAQ
Is it illegal to generate a product barcode image online?
Generating an image is not the key issue. The risk comes from using an invalid, invented or unauthorized number as an official product barcode.
Can I generate an image if I already have a valid EAN-13 number?
Yes. If the number is valid and the check digit is correct, an online tool can generate the EAN-13 barcode image for printing.
Can I use Code 128 for internal product management?
Yes. Code 128 is often better for internal SKUs, assets and warehouse labels because it supports mixed letters and numbers.
